Repair Café Foundation
The Repair Café Foundation was started in 2010 in the Netherlands and there are now 1218 Repair Cafés around the world. There are three of them in Wales- the nearest, in Llandrindod Wells, has been running successfully since 2014. Repairs are free- a voluntary donation is requested and there are stringent safety and liability controls. Refreshments are available for participants and there is a strong emphasis on community and enjoyment!
A Repair Café for Brecon?
Members of Brecon Volunteer Bureau are looking into setting up a Repair Café at the Volunteer Bureau on The Struet in Brecon, subject to funding being obtained. We are now asking for expressions of support or concerns to ensure this project is viable. The intention is not to take away from local businesses as the repairs are usually too small for them. The experience of other repair cafés shows it can actually boost local trade. We have already talked to a number of local businesses in Brecon who have been supportive.
See the main Repair café website: https://repaircafe.org/en/ and Llandrindod Wells website http://www.transitionllandrindod.org.uk/projects/repair-cafe for more information.
We need your response!
A big thank you to everyone who has responded so far (very positive). The more responses we have the better- but we will be closing our survey on Wednesday15th March.
Please take 2 minutes to fill in this short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RPQCC7D
Or like or comment on https://www.facebook.com/BreconRepairCafe
Or email vbxbrecon@fsmail.net or ring 01844 622003.
We would particularly like to hear from anyone interested in becoming a Volunteer ‘Fixer’ or helper (just 3 hours one Saturday/month- not necessarily every month) and anyone who could donate any spares for repairs.
Thank you!
