I see comments made by county Councillors Dorrance Fitzpatrick and McIntosh regarding Brecon Youth Centre. I’m sure we are all aware that whilst a previous administration of the County Council, it is the present Cabinet who have taken the decision to sell off existing youth service buildings of which the Cradoc Road building is one. Unfortunately both the webcast and minutes of the Cabinet meeting which included this decision were not available to view as they formed part of a confidential report by the Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, Youth Services, Leisure and Libraries. I researched further on Google and through the link “Powys County Council Youth Service Redesign” I found the consultation document page which showed Options 1 and 2 which are now closed. In the minutes of the meeting of 7th November 2017 the Cabinet resolved to pass Option 1 as their preference this being to” retain youth services in 5 locations” albeit by selling some buildings to initiate savings on heating lighting and maintenance etc in order to continue to provide youth services. it mentions providing a youth worker with reduced hours in each High School. It would appear they are going to try to run youth services from High Schools. I’m at a loss why Councillor Fitzpatrick feels it necessary to make out that Councillor Dorrance is not telling the truth. What I have set out here I think explains the situation completely. I’m not really computer savvy but by initiating simple searches it’s amazing what you find. Councillors Fitzpatrick and McIntosh need to get off their high horses and start working with their fellow Councillors not against them. I’m a Breconian from a long line of them as are many others who may read this, may I suggest we all support each other in trying to make our beautiful town the best it can be. Animosity breeds animosity but generosity breeds generosity and our town will flourish on the latter. More stories
