The Beauty of Snow
As I look I see a grey sky turning white
A cold and painful wind is now bringing in the night
My breath now starts to appear and blow for all to see
And as the sky gets cloudier I dream of what will be
It’s later now and all is hushed as the first flakes start to fall
No human, bird or four legged beast can resist this freezing call
To walk amongst the silent graves and leave behind a trail
And wait with almost childish joy and emotions that never fail
The flakes now fall and settle down and that leads to another
Now every child that excitement finds starts pleading to their mother
“Can I go out to play Mam, can I go join my mates?”
Next with cautious approval from Mam it’s out and through the gates
The snow is falling now big and bright, the evening starts to draw
Kicking through this powder of fun the kid’s just yell for more
“It’s getting deep now” young Paul shouts and starts to roll a ball
Then when he’s hit on the back of his head this covering cushions his fall
All animals that see this sight start to dig for food
Young boys start peeing in the snow, it’s fun but still it’s rude
The dogs now bark and run around for they can smell a fox
And all the kids cant afford gloves so on their hands are socks.
A snowball fight now erupts with friend attacking friend
Then the war of Europe erupts hopefully coming to an end
They play for hours in this world but now it’s getting much colder
Oh how I wish I could join in, it’s no fun getting older
All the gardens now look the same as this duvet covers the ground
And as I look at this fairy tale world there is silence all around
No cars or vans or motorbikes will chance their steely will
For no mere mortal now would chance Constitution Hill.
The tree’s are white, the car’s are white and still the snow does fall
And still the kids play in the street until their mother’s call
“Come in now it’s time for tea, and it’s bloody freezing!”
So in they come with saddened hearts and soon they start their sneezing
I think snow is beautiful, as an old man I find it calming
Yet the way I still see people drive is really quite alarming
The world could be a wonderful place if only people could know
It is the kindness of man that’s makes it beautiful, it’s only helped by snow
