140 PEOPLE CELEBRATE THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY
Brecon - Gouesnou Twinning Association recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary in Brecon. A large gathering of members, friends and sixty six Breton visitors came together to witness the planting of a tree in the Susan Francis Garden to commemorate thirty years of friendship. Susan Francis, a Town Councillor and Mayor was always pro-active in Twinning activities and the garden was made in memory of her. The addition of a crab apple tree will be a dominant feature there.
The group from Gouesnou arrived by coach on Wednesday 10th April and were welcomed in the Guildhall by Manny Trailor, Mayor of Brecon, Town Councillors and Committee members of the Association. The following two days saw visits to Dolaucothi Gold Mine, Parc Dinefwr and Dan yr Ogof. The visitors were all hosted by local Brecon people and the free day on Saturday gave everyone a better chance to get to know each other. On Saturday evening a Celebration meal was enjoyed by nearly 140 people in the Castle of Brecon Hotel, ably accompanied by harpist John Thomas.
The Association has gone from strength to strength since its evolution in 1988. A variety of smaller groups have visited both towns during the years. Young people have had the opportunity for voluntary placements in order to develop their language. These opportunities are ongoing. If you have a group who would like to be linked with a similar group in Gouesnou or you have a student who would like to further their French contact members of the Twinning Committee or Brecon Town Council.
