FRIENDS OF BRECON AND DISTRICT MIND
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BENEFITS OF MUSIC THERAPY: A TALK BY ANDY EVANS
Tuesday 18 June 2019, The Muse, Glamorgan Street, Brecon, 7pm
£5 (Friends / Members £2)
The Friends of Brecon and District Mind have invited Andy Evans, who has just completed his final year of music therapy training at the University of South Wales and is about to qualify as a music psychotherapist, to give a presentation about this work on Tuesday 18 June at the Muse, Brecon, at 7pm.
Andy lives and works in Pembrokeshire mainly in adult mental health and with people affected by dementia. His background as a military musician has led to an interest in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the therapeutic benefits of music therapy for this specialist field. Andy has a broad musical knowledge from working as a music teacher and has taught pupils from three to eighteen years old. He hopes to launch a freelance practice in the near future.
Intriguingly, Andy intends bringing an electric piano and various percussive instruments to assist in his presentation. He will also be showing videos of work with clients.
The Friends support the work of Brecon and District Mind and raise awareness of mental health issues in and around Brecon, Crickhowell, Talgarth and Hay-on-Wye. It is open to everyone and holds talks, walks, social activities and fund-raising events.
