St John’s Centre in Brecon is looking for volunteers who would be happy to share their skills and knowledge with others.
The centre, which is part of Faith in Families, needs people to help with its kids’ cooking club and luncheon club, and offers volunteers a chance to part of the great community work which is happening at St John’s.
Kid Cooking Club volunteer:
The Kids’ Cooking After School Club is full of fun and laughter as it teaches a small group of local primary school children how to cook healthy balanced meals and give them an opportunity to learn about nutrition. It takes place from 3.15pm – 5.30pm on Wednesdays during term time.
Benefits: Free snacks made in the session and helping to raise confidence in children and young people.
Skills required: Knowledgeable and experienced in cookery and happy to share your skills and knowledge with others, creating a warm and inviting environment for children to learn and try new things.
Luncheon Club Cook Volunteer:
The over 50s luncheon club helps combat loneliness and isolation, it’s a warm and friendly group of around 18 individuals who look forward to their lunch with us on a Monday afternoon and experience a wide range of activities and entertainment afterwards.
We are looking for a committed extra Luncheon club cook to help us once or twice a month if able. Shopping for ingredients beforehand for the club will be required, with arrival at the Centre for 10am on a Monday on a rotational basis, to begin prepping and cooking for lunch, and needed until around 1pm.
Benefits: A free lunch, a chance to meet new people and make a real difference to the participants. Food hygiene certificate training will be provided at no cost to you and is valid for three years.
Skills required: A whizz in the kitchen, familiar with cooking for a large number of people.
