By Karen Motyka:
SOS! Save Our Sister
Since the sad passing of Sister Bonaventure in October, Sister Finnian is the only Ursuline nun left living in Brecon. She is 81. She has dedicated half of her life to teaching, living amongst and serving the Brecon community. Her voluntary work and care for the needy and elderly are legendary. Sadly, she is under pressure from her order in Thurles in Ireland to return there to see out her days. She does not want to go! She is heart-broken! And with the Convent building now on the market she has nowhere to live in Brecon. The parish council of St Michael's are mobilising to help her stay in Brecon, but they need everyone's support to petition the Ursuline order to let her stay in the town she has loved all her life. She needs long term, secure accomodation within an easy walk of town.
If you feel able to help Sr Finnian to stay in Brecon, could you please write to :
Sisters of the Irish Ursuline Union
Smith O'Brien Street
Thurles
E41 ET35
Republic of Ireland
Their website is www.ursulines.ie
There is no email address but there is a "contact us" facility on the website that can be used to email them.
I also came across another address:
The Directors
Ursuline Generalate
17 Trimleston Drive
Booterstown
County Dublin
This is a company set up by the Ursuline sisters to make provision for the care and needs of the sisters into the future, especially the elderly and infirm. Let's write to them too!
Sister Finnian will be gone from Brecon by end of February, so it's imperative that we help her asap.
