A 16-year-old Brecon lad who witnessed an assault and mugging and then chased the attacker and tracked him down, has been presented with the Mayor's Award.
Decland, who is studying Sports and Exercise Science at NPTC (formerly Coleg Powys) in Brecon told fyi:brecon: "The incident happened just outside my house in Newmarch Street, Llanfaes,"
"I heard a woman shouting so I looked out of the window and saw a man who was attacking an elderly woman. I ran outside and chased him away then I came back to see how the woman was."
He added: "My mum was very proud of me but thought it was a stupid thing to do because I didn't know if he was dangerous."
Decland accepted the award from Mayor of Brecon Matthew Dorrance at The Guildhall on Monday January 27. The Mayor said that this award was for a citizen of Brecon who did a good deed for the town and that it was well deserved.
Decland has played rugby for Brecon since he was fourteen and his plans for the future are to finish college, get a degree in sports science and either become a strength and conditioning coach or work in the police.
