Trenewydd Residential Home, Llanfaes, has made the shortlist for Bupa Care Home of the Year from the 300 care homes nationwide - a first for any of the 12 homes in Wales.
The awards are being held on 07 September 2015 at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and 4 members of staff (Richard Shepherd - Home Manager, Trish Zimmer - Administrator, Tina Price - Team Leader and Kate Hardwick - Care Assistant) will be attending the ceremony. During the awards, they will also find out if Ruby (pictured below with resident) has won Bupa Pet of the Year.
Trish Zimmer. Trenewydd Administrator said:
“Since Richard Shepherd has taken over as Home Manager, he has focused strongly on improving our links with the community, in particular our recent project with the Friends of Brecon Dementia, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Society.
This project enabled the home to link up with Llanfaes Primary School to create a dementia friendly, sensory garden. It has been hugely successful and both residents and children from the school have thoroughly enjoyed the interaction and the pleasure of seeing the garden come to life.
The project has seen some high profile names, with the Older Persons Commissioner for Wales, Kirsty Williams and David Hynam, General Manager of Bupa Care Services all coming to see the progress being made. We are keen for this not to be a one off project and Llanfaes School are equally enthusiastic for link to continue in the years to come”,
“We like to think of Trenewydd as a home from home for our residents with a part time resident dog and 4 budgies adding to the homely feel. We encourage as much interaction as possible between residents and family and friends along with members of the local community, holding regular concerts where all are welcome. Birthdays are a time of great celebration in the home with family and friends all being included. This weekend, one of our residents, Ethel Powell, celebrated her 100th birthday with a big party being held in her honour”.
Richard Shepherd, Trenewydd Manager said he would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of staff for their hard work ensuring the ongoing success of the home.
