Brecon's busiest and BIGGEST Pantomime season to date!!
We catch up with actress LEILAH HUGHES who plays JILL, in this year's JACK AND THE BEANSTALK Pantomime which arrives at Theatre's Brycheiniog from 28th December... tickets are now selling fast!!
“Hello, Shwmai! Leilah Hughes here, your Princess Jill in this years production of Jack and the Beanstalk which will be arriving at the beautiful Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon. I know what you’re thinking, is it really that time of year again? The answer is YES! It may not be time to put your Christmas Tree up yet but it is definitely time to bag yourself some Pantomime Tickets! The perfect stocking filler and Christmas treat for you little ones! It’s time for another Winter filled with dramatic lighting, dazzling sets and glamorous costumes and that’s without adding the Puns, JJ Puppet and of course Panto Cow… Luna! I’m sure this year’s Panto will send you ‘Rownd a Rownd’ the bend with excitement just like our leading man Jay Worley who features in this S4C drama.
I myself am no stranger to the wonderful welsh world of S4C having starred in Gwaith Catref and Pobol Y Cwm in recent years. I am a fluent welsh speaker and a really passionate actress so it is really special when those two things come together. This year I’ll be swapping the auto cue and cameras for a live audience and a whole lot of added pressure. I find live performances really nerve racking, unlike tv you don’t get the opportunity to go back and do it again if you mess up or even have a make up artist fix your costume or make-up. It’s all up to you on the night! Not only that, I have the added pressure of being a Princess!!!
I’m really excited to be stepping out as Princess Jill this December and understand the pressure on me to be the best and most inspiring leading lady possible. I can remember when I used to watch Pantomimes and musicals as a child, I would also be so enthralled by the leading lady thinking ‘I wanna be just like them some day’. For young children and other inspiring actresses out there it’s the same case… I want them to watch me in the Pantomime and be inspired to be the best they can be.
It’s an honour to have been considered for this part in this professional production of Jack and the Beanstalk, especially given another chance to work with the amazing team who knows us better than we do. I’ve worked with Jermin productions on a few projects and it is always inspiring to work with such a creative, passionate team who’s work is always current! This year’s script is really innovative and imaginative so the whole cast have been really eager and excited to finish blocking! We’ve made it to the end and are ready to start our technical rehearsals at our first venue. This year the Pantomime will visit FOUR theatre venues across South Wales meaning that our cast will be word perfect by the time we arrive in Brecon! This year’s Pantomime really is the best one yet, it has something for everyone and is guaranteed to get your toes tapping to the beat of a whole new generation!
Well that’s all for me, it’s time to add some lights, sound and theatre magic to our Pantomime!”
Tickets are now on sale for this year’s GIGANTIC Pantomime of Fee, Fi, Fo and FUN! To book your tickets or to reserve your seats please contact the Theatr Brycheiniog on 01874 611622.
