Local community group PLAN Brecon are bringing back the ancient tradition of wassailing and the Mari Lwyd to Brecon with several events during the next few weeks.
The Mari Lwyd (Grey Mare/Grey Mary) is an ancient Welsh custom that involves going from house to house – and especially from pub to pub – with an entourage playing music and singing songs.
Come along and join in the fun by celebrating the Winter Solstice around Brecon. The evening’s events will involve spoken word, poetry, carols, music and making merry entertainment with festive antics.
The local Aberhonddu Mari Lwyd will be meeting up with friends at 7PM on the 21st December 2017 at The Brecon Tap and then touring through town with local musicians, singers, performers and poets. Anyone interested in participating will be more than welcome to join in the merriment.
Bring along your own instrument, drum, pots and pans, or dress up in a costume (Welsh, peasant, Victorian, Christmas, etc and have lots of fun by joining in with the local Mari Lwyd to play, sing, and dance, celebrating the Night Mare of Mid Winter in Mid Wales.
