... Jack and the Beanstalk arrives in perfect Pantomime form and this year's version will literally have you rolling in the hay bales in fits of giggles no matter what age you are!
Jermin Productions the company behind the annual Pantomime magic bring Fee Fi Fo and FUN by the bucket load in this jam packed production. The strength of the production lies in their distinctive script that perfectly blend child friendly humour with hilarious innuendo. Their creation of side splittingly funny sketches help make this year’s Jack and the Beanstalk one of South Wales’ favourite Pantomimes .
Set in the farmyard of Emmerdales Wales, we follow the farm yard antics of local lad Jack, played brilliantly by the charming JAY WORLEY (Rownd a Rownd / X Factor / Britain’s Got Talent) as he sells his leaping cow Luna in exchange for magic beans to rescue the beautiful Jill (played by LEILAH HUGHES) from the Castle in the sky. Worley with his charismatic grin, powerful singing voice and onstage banter is instantly adored and makes a fantastic leading man.
Attempting to stop cheeky Jack is the weird but wonderful Pantomime baddie, expertly played by LIAM DASCOMBE. Dascombe’s flair for comedy, executing so much energy with the sharpest of moves for his caricature of the Giant’s latest villainous apprentice FleshTRUMP, not to mention his hilarious impressions (Donald Trump, Simon Cowell and David Dickinson to name a few) makes him the audience’s favoured baddie you love to hate!
Returning Pantomime favourite ADAM BYARD explodes onto stage (quite literally!) as Jack’s loveable brother JJ complete with his notorious catch phrase “Way Hey J J!” and this year is accompanied by his feeble friend Mini JJ. Byard is clearly at home in this role and has the audience in the palm of his hand (the other hand helps to control his pintsized panto playmate!) His one liners come thick and fast and his slapstick silliness is a huge hit, especially with the younger members of the crowd who all adjourned with his popular song “Moves Like J J.”
This Pantomime showcases the highly talented cast whose singing and dancing wouldn’t go a
miss on a West End stage supported by teams of younger performers whom all attack the choreography with precision and personality, it really is a joy to watch so many young juveniles on stage and clearly loving their experience. Production numbers include classic party songs such as Time of My Life as well as contemporary favourites such as Another Day of Sun (from 2017 Oscar winning soundtrack La La Land) which allow audiences to sing along and get involved. Outstanding vocals are heard from the Green Bean Fairy Queen (LAURA PHILLIPS) whose singing is a sensation conjuring up spells to help Jack climb up the Beanstalk to fulfil his dreams and desires.
Comedic highlights arrive from the brilliant design, in particular the wacky and hilariously scene stealing costumes worn by Dame Cookie Trott (ANTHONY ARGYLE) whose rendition of “Shout Out to my Eggs” is simply “cracking” (sorry couldn’t resist!) with its egg-traordinary lyrics and this along with the “Strictly Cow Dancing” jumping routine brings the house down in Act One.
The other stars of the show also include the entertaining Pantomime Cow called Luna and the menacing Giant in the Sky whose movements via animatronics were incredible. These 2 elements, along with eye popping sets, beautiful costumes really demonstrate the company’s high production and proves that local Theatre can be excellent value for money right on your door step!
If you’re looking for a family friendly visit to the Theatre this Christmas, then this Panto adventure definitely gets a THUMBS up as the FUN is up!! Jack and the Beanstalk packs a GIGANTIC Punch in delivering a fantastic production with sack loads of charm, magic and adventure, a sure way to put a smile on anyone’s face this Christmas!
