Our small charity has been supporting young people in Brecon for hundreds of years, providing grants for books and equipment to help local people with their studies. The charity manages a building in Brecon which was left in trust by Edmund Jones in 1674, and the profits from the rental of this property are used to make grants to students, university undergraduates, apprentices and vocational trainees registered at an address within Brecon town.
Seven charity trustees manage the property and make grants in October and April each year. Three of these trustees are appointed from Brecon Town Council and four from the local community. We are currently looking for new community trustees, and are particularly interested in people who can contribute skills and knowledge in building management, accountancy, legal matters, apprenticeships, higher/further education and the charity sector. An understanding of social media would also be an advantage.
This is a voluntary position which is very rewarding and doesn't require a big time commitment, with administrative support provided by the Clerk to the Trustees. Becoming one of our trustees is a wonderful opportunity to help guide the work of a local charity supporting the young people of Brecon. Together we can help make the most of this wonderful legacy, making sure it remains relevant and helpful to young people and that grants are distributed in a way that maximises impact and supports local talent and enterprise. Becoming a trustee can also be a great opportunity for professional development, and training and support will be provided.
