In a seasonal departure from our standard tours, Booklovers’ Tours is offering an alternative to more traditional Halloween activities, a Hallowmas tour. On the day dedicated to honouring all saints, travel with us to one of the most sacred sites in Wales; a 6th century cell established by our very own patron saint of Wales, St David in the shadow of Llanthony Priory.
On the way you will pass through countryside that has inspired generations of writers from Gerald of Wales to Owen Sheers. The outstanding beauty of the Vale of Ewyas or Llanthony Valley retains an air of mystery and magic even in these technological times and casts a haunting spell on all who visit.
Travelling onwards from Llanthony Valley , we reach the small village of Llanvihangel Crucorney where we stop for lunch ( not inclusive ) at the Skirrid Mountain Inn, one of the oldest pubs in Wales and arguably the most haunted ! With a history reputed to date back to Norman times, The Skirrid’s past is steeped in legend with claims that it was a rallying point for Owain Glyndwr and his rebels in their revolt against Henry 1V, as well as serving as a courtroom and execution place between the twelfth and seventeenth centuries.
