Powys is now officially the best part of Wales to go green. Homeowners can apply for an interest free home improvement loan from Welsh Government to finance the initial costs of a qualifying heating system from a qualified installer. Quarterly payments from the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme over seven years cover the loan payments. In most cases this effectively means a free new environmentally friendly heating system.
Tina and Brian’s house in Llanwrtyd Wells was difficult to heat due to an inefficient, aged and dirty log / coal fired solid fuel boiler. It was hard work to keep the fire going but a replacement seemed an expensive luxury while the existing system wasn’t broken. The couple did their research and chose the Klover Smart 80, which fitted neatly into the existing alcove and provides a hob as well as s beautiful feature. It is programmed in advance and ignites automatically, provides the heating and hot water and is thermostatically controlled, and therefore much more efficient. The couple applied for the loan through the Roberto Owen Community Bank in Newtown and selected Birdshill as their renewable heating installer.
The system is more efficient, cleaner, user friendly and an attractive feature in their cosy snug. The wood pellets are delivered in 10kg bags to their home and stored in an outbuilding. The bags of pellets are cheaper, much cleaner and easier to handle than coal.
By choosing to replace the system with a renewable heating system they qualified for the interest free loan and the RHI scheme is re-paying
With financial support like this it’s easy to go green.
