At a recent concert, the Chairman of Powys County Council, County Councillor David Meredith, presented our Musical Director, Dave Jones with a Gold Kite award. The award was given in recognition of Dave having been the Musical Director of Brecon Town Concert Band since 1995. The Band has flourished since Dave has been the Director and currently has over 60 members, some of whom travel over 50 miles to attend rehearsals and performances. The Band performs a wide variety of music from classical through to contemporary "pop and rock". Highlights this year are three concerts - one on the 3rd July in Theatr Brycheiniog which will be a combined concert with the Cosmopolitan Music Society of Edmonton, Canada; the second will be the opening of the public performance concerts for the Jazz Festival in St Mary's Church on Friday 9th August and the third is the band's "Last Night of the Proms concert on Monday 30th September, again in Theatr Brycheiniog. Young players continue to be attracted by the diversity of the music. Annual membership is only £35 and this incorporates an instrument (if required and in stock) a band polo shirt; music satchel and all music. If you are interested in joining the Band, please come along to a rehearsal on a Monday between 7 and 9pm in The Studio, Theatr Brycheiniog or give our Musical Director Dave a call on 07779-390954 More stories
